Textures and designs can be embossed in leather, using photo-etched magnesium dies as shown in the top photo, or a variety of materials. Using a manual or hydraulic press, the die is placed against prepared leather and subjected to high pressure. When the die is removed the design remains embossed in the leather.
The lower photo shows the embossed leather piece dyed and finished with gold paint to highlight the design.
